Random Review Tuesday: Crystal Light Pure Fitness

Since deciding to cut out all soda and embrace water as my new best friend I have started looking at drinking in a whole new light. I am told you should drink half your body weight in water each day. For me that totals up to over 100 ounces of water. I have never been a big water drinker so this has been a challenge to me. I used to drink Crystal Light (a long time ago) but I hated the after taste from the aspartame. Now since starting my journey into a healthier lifestyle I have realized that aspartame is not good for you at all.

Crystal Light Pure Fitness is the first nationally-available, low-calorie fitness beverage mix with no artificial flavors, preservatives or sweeteners and colored with natural ingredients. With only 15 calories per serving, it’s sweetened with evaporated cane juice and TruviaTM, an all-natural, calorie-free sweetener derived from the stevia plant, and it’s colored and flavored with natural ingredients. Pure Fitness also contains electrolytes to aid hydration during light physical activity, making it a great fitness partner. Each packet will transform a 16.9-ounce bottle or cup of water into a light, refreshing beverage in any one of three flavors – Lemon Lime, Strawberry Kiwi or Grape.

I am absolutely in love with this new Crystal Light Pure Fitness. I still get my water counts each day, yet I don't feel like I am only drinking water. I think Grape is my favorite flavor though I like them all. I was nervous to try the Lemon Lime, I am not a fan usually, but it actually reminds me of a lemonade. For me this is a complete win win situation!

Want to try Crystal Light Pure Fitness out for yourself? Head on over to Vocal Point to snag a sample. You do have to be a member but it is FREE to join and you get cool stuff!

Words to Sweat By Review & Giveaway

Yesterday I walked 7 miles can you believe that? I can't! I know one thing I sweat so much during our walks to the park and there are days where it is so hot I just want to pack the kids up and head home. I am also one of those people that love motivation and slogans. I have to convince myself that I must keep going and I can do this. Needless to say I was thrilled when I ran across Words to Sweat By. After looking around this Etsy shop I realized I just had to review one of these handy towels. I contacted Dana (she is so sweet) and she told me to pick out a slogan. Okay let me just say this is not an easy task!
I mean who would not love these slogan's. "C" is for crunches not cookies, 10 more reps and the cupcake is history, or Breath in Breath out. These were just a few of my favorites! Dana has so many more. She is now selling on her main website zipper pull/key chain's.  What a great way to keep yourself motivated to change yourself. I received the towel and key chain that says 'Exert Hydrate Repeat' for review. I was very impressed with how it was packaged when it arrived. The towel was folded up and placed in a gorgeous blue organza bag. I think this would make for a great gift for anyone that is working on getting fit!
The towel is about the size of a hand towel you would use in your bathroom. I think it was the perfect size to take in a gym bag or out on you walk with you. I absolutely love my key chain and it is with my house keys so I see it everyday and it reminds me to drink my water. I only wish the key chain was maybe stretchy so I could wear it on my wrist. The towel retails for $8 and the key chain for $4 so these would make really cute inexpensive gifts.

The Results Are In:

    * Words to Sweat By saves MONEY~ You can get both a towel and key chain for under $15!
    * Words to Sweat By saves SANITY~ Functional and Helps Motivate!

WIN IT: One winner will win a set of two towels and two key chains in their choice of mantra. All Dana asks is that you give one of each to a friend!

MANDATORY ENTRY: Visit Words to Sweat By and tell me which mantra you like best.

Mamavation Monday: Week Nine

So this is the last week of 'Move it and Lose it' Mamavation Challenge; I am sorry you have to see the nightmare again! This week has seen so much improvement on my eating. My day is actually eat breakfast about 7:30am, snack about 9:45, Lunch between 11:30 and noon, snack about 3 pm and then dinner before 7. I have been eating apples and bananas and yogurt mainly for my snack. I feel better and have so much more energy! I have gotten back into walking and my goal is to now walk 2 miles first thing in the morning and then 2 miles in the evening. This is GREAT for my kids and they love it! I am also branching out and trying new healthier foods. I posted a great Sloppy Joe recipe on Friday... if you haven't then check it out!

I am amazed at how each day I seem to have more and more energy! Please I need your help on one thing though! I have not been working out at home as much as I need to. Please tweet me and tell me to get my fat a$$ up and work out!

I will admit it has been hard to not eat out at all but I can say I am going to start allowing my self this pleasure every now and then. I promise to make it fit and healthy. Subway helps me to do that! It is important to not totally ban treating yourself every now and then because if you do then your setting yourself up to fail. You will get tired of it all and feel it's not worth it. Did I read this somewhere~ NO it has happened to me before and I am determined to not let it again!

Not Your Canned Sloppy Joes

I know that it is not Wednesday but I had to share this recipe I made last night for you!

Sloppy Joes

Ingredients

  • Vegetable Cooking Spray
  • 1 Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 1 Large Sweet Pepper, Finely Chopped (I used the mini red, orange, and yellow peppers about 8 mini)
  • 1 pound Lean Ground Beef (Next time I will try with Turkey)
  • 1 Can of no/salt added diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup drained and rinsed no salt added kidney Beans
  • 4 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 4 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 1/8 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Black Pepper to taste
  • 4 Whole Wheat Buns Or 4 servings cooked Brown Rice
Directions

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and coat lightly with cooking spray. Add the Onion and Sweet Peppers. Cook for aprox 3 min, stirring. Crumble in meat and cook until browned, Keep breaking it apart with a spoon for about 4 minutes.
While meat is browning mash your Kidney Beans. The recipe I have says to use a fork... (left), I have a bean masher/potato masher (right)
Stir in beans, tomatoes, vinegar, tomato paste, cloves, cinnamon, sugar, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 4 minutes. (I cooked on low simmer for 30 minutes before serving)
Divide the mixture among 4 rolls or brown rice (as pictured above).
Number of Servings: 4
Calories: 415  (approx)

This was so good! Even my four year old gobbled it up! I will be trying it with ground turkey next time! I do think  it made more then 4 servings (at least in our house), as we got about 6 out of ours.

HOT~ CVS Clearence Finds

So I had to make an unplanned stop in at CVS to print some pictures of my 4 year old who had his graduation end of year ceremony from Head start today. As I was waiting on the pictures to print I seen a huge cart full of Snuggies up front. They were on clerance for $3.75. I got two because even though I think they are kind of stupid a waste of money I got to thinking.... These would be great for Ken and I to use when we go camping again. Where we go is always cold at night when we are sitting in front of the camp fire and especially cold when we are getting up int he morning and drinking coffee.

As I was checking out I noticed a basket on the counter marked 90% off. I rummaged through and found bottles of some kind of male enhancement ($2.99 down from $29.99), a huge pack of cvs pads ($1.25), a HUGE box of depends (dunno price), and EPT 3 pack digital tests ($2.20 down from $22). Here is what I got:

Total Spent after tax: $12.57 Total Saved: $59.02
Note this could have been killer if I had any coupons for the EPT! Oh and the expiration on the EPT is not till 2011 and they are 3 pack tests! So keep your eyes open. Come back and let me know what you can score at your stores. (Here is one of the pics of Aaron today!)

Label's as low as $2.20!

I just found out that, Expressionery.com is offering an additional 60% off clearance prices this month. You can get 144 custom address labels for just $2.20 shipped!
To place your order:

May is National Foster Care Month

Did you know it would take less than 1% of the U.S. population to provide a family for every child in foster care? To me this statistic is mind boggling!

May is National Foster Care Month and there has never been a greater need to bring attention to children waiting for forever homes.  More than 463,000 children are currently in foster care and 123,000 children are waiting to be adopted. Imagine how many of these kids don't hear 'I Love You' everyday; or recieve a kiss and a hug from someone that cares about them.

Children in foster care are loving children.  They are children like Shaquane and Edlina and Albert.  Every child deserves to have a home with caring and supportive parents. Most people assume that these kids are problem kids when in reality most just want a loving home to lay their head down at night!

I am trying to help spread the message this month to reach all Americans (okay at least my readers) and teach them about the love and joy that foster care adoption can bring to your life.

Visit www.adoptuskids.org to learn more about fostering and adopting. You can also join our online communities on Facebook and Twitter

Random Review Tuesday: Vitalicious SuperSampler Pack! Review

So all of you know (if you read my blog on Monday's) that I am on a weight loss journey. Let me tell you one of my secrets. I am a huge chocolate feign; I mean I LOVE chocolate. So how do you ask have I lost 16 pounds in 7 weeks! (Which by the way I simply can not fathom and wrap my head around) I can honestly say I owe some of it to Vitalicious! Without them I probably would have given into every temptation known to man!

I received the SuperSampler Pack to review. Which includes an assortment of 100 calorie natural muffin tops and brownies:
4 Low Fat Deep & Velvety VitaBrownies
2 Low Fat Chocolate Mint VitaTops
2 Low Fat Banana Nut VitaTops
2 Low Fat Triple Chocolate Chunk VitaTops
2 Low Fat Deep Chocolate VitaTops
2 Low Fat Fudgy Peanut Butter Chip VitaTops
2 Low Fat Golden Corn VitaTops
2 Low Fat CranBran VitaTops
2 Low Fat AppleBerry VitaTops
2 Low Fat RaisinBran VitaTops
2 Low Fat BlueBran VitaTops

This product contains no artificial additives or preservatives therefore we recommend freezing upon receipt.

Let me just say the Deep & Velvety VitaBrownies are absolutly to die for! When I recieved my box I put them straight into the freezer as I was instructed. I did grab a Banana Nut VitaTop to try. My initial reaction is that they tasted wonderful but were a little dry. The next day When I was craving chocolate and went to raid the freezer (which is where we keep chocolate in my house) I seen the VitaTops and was reminded I am on a diet  life style change. I took one of the VitaTops out and popped it in the microwave for about 30 seconds; took a bite, and I was in Heaven! I can honestly say there was not one thing in this sampler box I did not enjoy. (Please not my Mother-in-Law helped me sample these and she is in total agreement. I did not sample the RaisinBran as I can not stand raisin's but she loved them!)

I am in shock that these could taste so wonderful and yet be good for you! Oh wait you don't believe me that they are good for you? What if I told you they are only 100 calories and that the normal person can burn the calories from a VitaTop or VitaBrownie in 13-15 minutes.  I mean look at the chart; these are so healthy and yet I swear they are absolutely tasty! I always felt like I should be feeling guilty about eating these!

It was nice to be able to have a sweet snack that was healthy and tasted great on those nights that my husband and son were eating ummmm all those things that are not so healthy!

You can go to Vitalicious site and check to see where you can buy these close to you. I was in awe when I checked and I can buy these at both the Food City and Kroger here in my town! I did not know that..... What about you? If there is not a store close to you don't fear you can always order these great snacks online! Check out how to earn a free sample of VitaTops by playing the Secret Sample game on Facebook! You can also keep up with VitaTops on Twitter and their blog! Oh and before I forget make sure you check out the whole line of products Vitalicious carries: coffee, bake wear, baking mixes, and even cakes!

The Results Are In:

    * VitaTops saves TIME~ In a hurry but got a sweet tooth? Grab a VitaTop from the freezer, pop in microwave, and get going!
    * VitaTops saves MONEY~ Although a little pricey some items will surprise you. They have cake for 8 for under $13.00!
    *
VitaTops saves SANITY~ No more depriving yourself sweets just because your losing weight!

The opinions expressed in this post are mine and mine alone. I was not compensated but I did receive a sample in order to give a fair and honest opinion. Please see my disclosure policy for details about reviews and giveaways!

Playtex Bra Makeover

When was the last time you bought a new bra? When was the last time you were fitted for a bra? When I was getting ready for my wedding I went into a store to buy a strapless bra and realized the size I thought I was in reality was no where close. Did you know statistics say seven out of ten women are wearing the wrong size bra, which can result in an ill fit for the rest of their outfit, back and shoulder pain, as well as bruising and digging.

So I know you are rolling your eyes at me and saying, Jessica I have no time! Okay take a deep breath... That's why I wanted to let you know about this contest from Playtex! Playtex has come up with www.PlaytexBraMakeover.com, a site where we women can go to apply for a bra makeover or nominate a friend. Hint Hint you can nominate me ;) If chosen (me me me), the winner will be flown to New York to receive a Bra Makeover with style expert Alison Deyette. I so need a style expert.... I am waiting for What Not to Wear to show up at my house! Deyette is a fashion and trend lifestyle expert who has been featured on Bravo's Millionaire Matchmaker and TLC's Ten Years Younger, as well as in print publications including Good Housekeeping, The Washington Post, and O Magazine. WOW okay talk about credentials! So what are you waiting for? Apply (or nominate me!) for your chance to win a Playtex Bra Makeover today. Please note the last day to apply is Friday, May 21st, 2010. SO hurry because well time flies when your having fun all the time!

Not one but ten winners will be selected for a Bra Makeover! They will also star in their very own webisode and receive a fitting with Deyette as well as walk away with the perfect Playtex products. A new webisode will premier on www.PlaytexBraMakeover.com every two weeks.

By posting this information, I am entered into a contest to win a free bra from Playtex. I did not receive any compensation for this post and thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Gorton's Review & Giveaway

Fish is an extremely healthy food to add into your family meal routine. If you are like my household buying quality fish from the market could break the bank and fast! Also as a mom of two active boys and a wife of a hubby who is not around all that much, my time is a valuable commodity that is very limited. Gorton's solves my problems on both fronts.

Gorton's Grilled Fillets are healthy and very well priced. At less then $4.00 a box with two serving's this is a great way to save money yet eat a food that has so many health benefits. They only contain 100 calories per serving! Did you know that Two 3-ounce servings of fish a week are recommended, ideally from varieties that are high in DHA and EPA. Two servings of fatty fish twice a week can supply 500 to 1,000 mg of omega-3s. (Taken from arhp.org) Medical studies show that a diet rich in seafood – a natural source of omega-3's – enhances brain development. That's why Gorton's has partnered with medical and nutritional experts like Dr. Michael Crawford to bring you the latest news in brain health.(Read more here on Gorton's sight)
I know my family loves Gorton's nights and I love that I can trust I am feeding my family healthy food; not to mention the time I am saving. I am not a fish eater but I got to try the grilled shrimp.and boy can I say I am sold. I placed this on  a huge salad and not only was I delighted but this was a healthy filling dinner. I also love how I can buy a variety of products and place a little of each on a baking sheet so everyone in the family gets what they want for dinner. I can honestly say the Gorton's brand will be a staple in my home.

Make sure you check out the recipes section on Gorton's the next time your family will be eating fish. You might just get surprised at not hearing picky eaters complaining that night!

Mamavation Monday: Week Eight

Okay this is week six of the 'Move it and Lose it' Mamavation Challenge; one more week to go! This week was one of the best for me! I have worked out each night but because of the rain we have not done our walking. Last night was fun as Aaron, Ken, and I all worked out on the Wii Fit together. We did one of the obstacle course games and then the flying game. I kicked both their booties but we laughed and had fun. Ken has decided to try to lose weight with me. He lost 3 pounds this week! I don't know how he does it! I have to watch what I eat, cut out all soda, work out every night and it's a struggle; he still eats horrid, drinks Mtn. Dew like I drink water and he hardly ever works out besides his job.

I am keeping up with my inspiration. Since The 'Move It and Lose It' challenge is offering $500 and a pair of Earthwear Footwear to the one mom who loses the most body weight percentage I am going back to asking myself.... 'Is this worth $500 and awesome shoes?'. So how did I do.......

Here are my measurements as of 4/12:
Bust: 51.5
Waist: 51.0
Hips: 48.75
Thighs: R- 24.0 L- 24.5
Arms: R- 14.25 L- 14.5

Here are my measurements as of 5/9:
Bust: 51.25 (-.25)
Waist: 48 (-3)
Hips: 47.75 (-1)
Thighs: R- 24.0 L- 24.5 (-0)
Arms: R- 13.5 (-.75) L- 14.5 (-0)

I will be doing measurements again next Monday. I wonder if there will be more change!

Current Stats:

  • Weight: 206 (-16 total -4 this week)
  • Height:  5'8
  • BMI:    32.0 (- 1.8)
OMGosh How did that happen? I stepped on and off 4 times to make sure this was correct! I am so happy and nervous..... could I actually reach 200 or less by June? I have not been under 200 in 8 years! I am so excited.... did I already say that. Okay its a dream... someone pinch me!

Current Goals:

SHORT TERM~
  • Drink 80 ounces of water a day
  • Work out on the Wii Fit for 60 minutes daily
  • Don't eat after 7 pm
  • No soda drinking
LONG TERM~
  • Weigh 150 pounds
  • No soda drinking
  • Work out 90 min daily
