They have tons of toys for one year olds so there is no guessing what would work for your child! I can not believe that in a few short months I will be looking for toys for two year olds! I was sent the Shape Sorting Cube by Melissa and Doug to try with Caleb.
At first I was a little disappointed as we own several shape sorters. I can tell you the disappointment faded as soon as Caleb sat down to play. This sorter is wooden and anyone that knows anything about Melissa and Doug products, know they are top of the line for safety. This sorter also contains 12 shapes and they are not the basic shapes. Caleb has mastered his other shape sorters so it was interesting to see how he would work through this one.
The lid on this one slides off instead of the 'normal' lift up lid. This was something that kept his attention for quite a while. I enjoyed watching him find the shapes he already knew and then 'work' on the harder shapes. Overall I am so pleased with this toy and feel it is appropriate 18 - 30 months. What is great is this toy could be so versatile in learning... everything from colors, counting, shapes, and beyond!
